The Canadian Mental Health Association promotes mental health year-round, but sets a week aside annually to draw attention to their work and especially for mental health awareness and activity in the general community. The week is over but their month-long Be Well Winnipeg continues to featuring activities anyone can enjoy which will assist in your own personal mental health. The new CMHA Winnipeg building is at the end of Lenore Strteet in the old CJOB building and I was able to get back and forth in my wheelchair.
Yesterday I participated in a “Day of Mindfulness” and didn’t (need to) say a word for seven hours. The day consisted of Mindful activities, some elementary yoga poses, and several hour -long or longer guided meditations. I often came back to mindful breathing as an anchor and to refocus when my mind was wandering, and like the guy on the cd says “As long as you are still breathing there is more right with you then wrong with you.”
Kaleidoscope is a publication of writing and art featuring the work of people with lived experience of mental illness using creative expression as one element of their mental health recovery program. Congratulations to Matthew Sarbit and Henry Peters who play a large part in this Manitoba Mental Health Association publication. The launch of the next issue is on Thursday, May 16th at 6:30 in the new Winnipeg CMHA offices at Portage & Lenore. Check out the wonderful new digs, magazine and music performances. Note RSVP is requested as part of the information on the launch poster KaleidoscopeLaunchPoster.
