I attended Westgate Mennonite Collegiate for Grade 9. It was a pretty rough year for me because of my slipped hip and surgery, and for our teachers – we went through three of them. As much as I was excited to live in a big city, which is what Winnipeg was to me, I wanted to go back to Gretna to go to the Mennonite Collegiate Institute, where I had friends, relatives and bullies I knew. I found a peer group of other preacher’s kids and readers, and though considered eccentric, enjoyed living away from home. This is an MCI school picture, Grade 11 I think. The dress code was navy, blue and grey, and yes, white ties.
