At my desk, Winnipeg Film Group Office 2002
Last night I dreamt about Guy Maddin’s Grade 10 report card. We discussed Grade ten Mathematics and our respective marks, neither of them very good, but Guy’s clearly better than mine. I was too embarrassed to show him my report card after he showed me his in the Winnipeg Film Group office.
The office is located in the Exchange district but the building is an extrapolation, involving connected structures housing a vast array of artists and arts organizations over several blocks, as part of my dream imagined city.
Several hours later, long after Guy’s left the office and it’s dark outside he sends me a short clip from the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, pointing out how the sets resemble the building where I work.
