What started out as an interesting tall-tale ended up as nothing but a stinky pile of crap. Two million readers can be wrong! Falls apart faster than Ikea furniture. Actually much worse than Forrest Gump, Also crap. Instead read;
in 1668, Grimmelshausens Der abenteuerliche Simplicissimus, (avialable in English) Good Soldier Sviek by Yaroslav Hasek, (also available in English). There’s something more recent and more interesting than Being There (Kozinski – actually Painted Bird his best), but I can’t for the life of me, remember it. Earle Birney’s Turvey a Canadian novel, grounded in WWII, is good too, and all three are funny. General’s Die in Bed, Canadian Hemingway sentences before Hemingway, not so much.

I haven’t read Gump, but as regards the movie, I hated every minute of it the first time I saw it. The second time, it dawned on me that this was black irony, darkest comedy. All of it. I liked it better then.
