Mennonite Anthologies Launch

Lookit RhubarbThe Mennonite Literary Society launches 9 Mennonite Stories, a twin to Rhubarb issue 41, Thursday October 19th at X-cues, 551 Sargent Avenue, doors open at 7:00 pm. There is no cover charge. It’s a new venue for Rhubarbarians, with lots of room, and the usual popular Thursday night X-cues live band jam follows at 9 pm.

The 9 Mennonite Stories stories were selected by David Bergen, illustrated by Murray Toews and introduced by Maurice Mierau. All three will be at the launch. The nine illustrations will be screened during the evening, while Dora Dueck whose story “The Mask” is featured in this anthology of Mennonite fiction, and Armin Wiebe, with an excerpt from The Salvation of Jash Siemens, round out the evening.

Hildi Froese Tiessen, editor of 11 Encounters with Mennonite fiction, a twin to Rhubarb issue 42, will speak about the genesis of the book of essays, and an invitation to its launch the next day on Friday October 20 at 1 PM at EckhardtGramatté Hall at the University of Winnipeg as part of the Mennonite/s Writing Conference at the University of Winnipeg from October 19 to 21.

The third book in the series 29 Mennonite Poets will also be available, with all three selling for the phenomenal combined low price of $49.00 at the launches. See also www.rhubarbmag.com.
