REDOUBLE
At the lake enjoying a cold one reading Harper’s when I read “[Obama] promised to redouble foreign aid s an anti-terrorism tool”. I’ve hated this word since the 80s when, attending an AGM of the League of Poets someone brought a motion to the floor recommending the LCP “redouble its efforts” to do who knows what, and the ensuing debate took two hours of meeting time with the substance of the motion forgotten. I certainly can’t remember it. Remember this was before Google, which would have saved a lot of time. While I continue to dislike the word and am unlikely to ever use it because I do not play bridge or backgammon, according to

My inner style guide believes double or quadruple will do nicely!
