CBC Radio Two
 tom allen
I’ve made my peace with the changes, though my favourite announcer remains Tom Allen with his program Shift designed for a seamless sometime successful segue to Rich Terfry’s Drive show from 3:30 – 7:00.  I am fine with Rich, Pete Moray,  and Tom Power,  but prefer a more varied mix of music. Pet peeves remaining on CBC Radio 2 are Google trivia, and that there are no more CBC announcers or broadcasters. They are all personalities.

I was startled to hear Molly Johnson sign off on her weekend morning show last Sunday. Molly has been doing the show for a surprising nine years, which my brother and I listened to regularly.  We’ll miss her and her amazing weekend morning voice. On the upside it means more concerts and fresh recordings, best wishes to her in 2014. Unfortunately she has been the only regular daytime female Radio 2 music announcer with any staying power, which is s a shame.  CBC Radio 2 might also try again for their jazz show Tonic, Tim Tamashiro no match for his predecessors like  Katie Mallick and Winnipeg’s own Ross Porter. Too many singers is almost bearable but I have really had it with the jazz organ, Hammond B3 or not, nor am I concerned if “jazz makes me cooler.”

Victor, I don’t know to what extent you’re a classical music fan, but hope you’re tuning in to the new 107.1 fm occasionally. It’s great to hear Eric Friesen again, and Bill Richardson, and then they’ve got the jazz from 9 pm until midnight. We hardly ever listen to CBC Radio 2 any more!

Why did Molly Johnson leave CBC?
